we used to hop the fence at the community pool during warm summer nights. we would swim in our wet jeans and look up at the stars as we floated on our backs. we would talk about our dreams, and the vastness of space and possibility, while making eddies with our circling hands. they were good nights. magical nights. i don't remember why i stopped going. but i missed those nights. and i missed you.
yesterday you told me about how you broke in to the expensive indoor pool and ice rink. you couldn't see the stars in there with your new friends. i doubt you even took the time to miss them, or float on your back. you were too busy stealing from the concession stand and forgetting how it all started. why it all began.
you aren't free anymore. you're not adventurous, bold, daring, or anything else you fancy yourself. you're a parody. and knowing that makes me realize that i for one may have finally outgrown you.
